Day 7 - Kitakyushu, Japan

Kokura, the heart of Kitakyushu, is an ancient feudal castle town guarding the Shimonoseki Strait. Kokura was supposed to be the target of the second nuclear bomb during the Second World War. However, because of the cloudy weather on the day of the attack the plan was changed to Nagasaki instead. The modern city of Kitakyushu dates only from 1963, when the cities of Kokura, Moji, Tobata, Wakamatsu and Yahata merged by administrative decree.
